What's In an Espresso Martini?

A traditional espresso martini is made with vodka, chilled espresso, and coffee liqueur. Despite its name, the espresso martini isn't a true martini. It doesn't contain gin or vermouth, but it's still a crowd-pleasing cocktail. Our frozen version is easy to whip up in a bar blender with some crushed ice.

Frozen Espresso Martini

When you make a frozen espresso martini, be sure to use a coffee concentrate with at least a 4:1 ratio so the coffee flavor comes through. If you use regular strength cold brew or espresso, it will taste watered down because of the ice. Adding a little bit of half-and-half or canned coconut milk gives it a hint of creaminess. Use crushed ice in your bar blender for the smoothest drink.

Yield: (2) 8-ounce servings

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces strong espresso or cold brew concentrate (at least 4:1 concentrate)
  • 2 ounces Kahlua
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 ounce half and half (or canned coconut milk for a non-dairy version)
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • Coffee beans for garnish

Directions

  1. Add all liquid ingredients to blender jar.
  2. Top off with crushed ice and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into two martini glasses or coupe glasses and add coffee beans for garnish.

This frozen cocktail is a coffee-lovers dream. It's frosty, smooth, and full of espresso flavor. You'll also be surprised how quick and easy it is to prepare.
