- When following the instructions on the back of the package, the cake mix seems too watery. How can I improve the recipe?

Quickly and easily whip up a dense, succulent devil's food cake and save time baking it from scratch with this 5 lb. cake mix! Providing all the ingredients you need, this mix makes baking easy, while still offering a homemade taste. Just add water, mix, and bake!
Invented in the United States in the early 20th century, devil's food cake is the chocolate-flavored counterpart to the light and airy, white angel food cake. It is generally lighter and more succulent than other chocolate cakes, and is closely tied to red velvet cake, without its signature red food coloring. Made with cocoa powder, its robust chocolate flavor suits any chocolate lover's tastes!
This mix rises nicely for cupcakes and fluffy sheet cakes with soft, moist texture. Decorate your baked goods with a fruit glaze or rich chocolate frosting, and top with chocolate shavings, decorative icing, chocolate chips, and more. Whichever way this versatile cake mix is prepared and served, you're sure to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth!

Not what I expected. I thought this would be normal baking mix(like box mix) this is just add water mix, not impressed with the turn out of the cupcakes, customers were not happy with the product either.

Great size and excellent packaging. This made my baking experience an easy one. I don't usually use "store bought" mixes but was in a pinch with a huge order for a banquet and they weren't specific about details so I figured why not. 1 lb to 8 oz of water made for quick mixing while using a standard kitchen scale. The cupcakes were a huge hit (both mini and regular size) and tasted fantastic too!

This cake is good. can be a little dry if you're short on liquid. i use a little oil or apple sauce with the water for more moisture. Cant beat the ease of this mix.

This mix is not bad. But, it takes some work and extra effort to get it that way. Most of the time, I bake everything from scratch. However, I was looking for a fast mix to use for cake pops since the texture of the cake is usually not that important. I found you will get the best results with this mix if you do the following: 1: Make sure you use a kitchen scale to measure it by the pound. The weight printed on the bag is not always accurate. 2: Once the product is measured out, SIFT IT! It is crazy clumpy and this helps to get some air into it. 3: The directions say to use 1 C water to every pound. I take a measuring cup and add 2 eggs to the cup and then fill it to the 1 C line with water. Add it to the mix and then stir by hand. I don't think you have to beat this product in a stand mixer like the directions say. 4: Add some extra vanilla. I use 2 tsp. I've used this for cupcakes also and they bake up evenly and the texture is soft but still a little dense. This is perfect for cake pops, though! Hope this helps!

An ok Devil's food cake mix. My only problem was I had to add oil and eggs to the mix to get it to turn out not heavy and dry. But it tastes great.

The cake was very dense and I followed the directions to a t if you are looking for a light and fluffy result this cake mix is not for you
Jennifer V. Posted on 06/17/2013
Thanks for reviewing this item. To make the cake less dense, you can add a little more water. Be sure to measure the cake by weight and the water by volume. The cake can also be doctored up by adding extra flavorings.

Moist and delicious! A very good chocolate cake mix that holds up well for stacking cakes. Everyone we've served it to has loved the flavor.

I have been searching around for a good bulk cake mix. This devil's food chocolate mix was very moist, tender, and the perfect amount of density without any doctoring. I experimented with it making chocolate cupcakes. They were delicious. I have even added chocolate chips to the batter for extra chocolateyness.
Tameka T. from DREAM CRUMB TRUE CAKES Posted on 04/16/2013
The cake is extremely rich and chocolaty! Though it still is not as great as a from scratch devil's food, it is perfect for using when the cake is augmented with a lot of different fillings, frostings, and toppings.

This is a great devils food cake mix. It's super easy to make and comes out great every time. It has that rich chocolaty taste you look for in this type of cake.
Jennifer M. Posted on 09/14/2012
the cake flavor is delicious, however the getting the mix/water ratio is the tough part. i've tried this and the white cake mix several times. each time the batter is too runny and makes a 'pancake' looking cake, or the texture is that of a biscuit. will not use again
