Why do the numbers on my scale only show half of its weight capacity?

Scales often have readouts totaling half their capacities. The readout is the highest weight showing on the scale. Because the readout is less than the scale’s maximum weight, they feature a two-revolution dial that can extend beyond the readout to show higher weights, up to double the readout. This allows a scale to have larger, easier-to-read numbers and a more accurate output.
