burner flame soot bought burn job paint sturdy air beer

All in all this is a good burner. I use it for brewing beer. As other reviewers have mentioned, it produces a lot of soot. It appears it wasn't painted with a high temp paint because it is flaking off now.

Thank you for the review, Scott! The manufacturer has improved these - they are now painted with a high temperature paint. Over time, however, it is natural for the paint to show regular wear and tear.

I bought this item about two years ago. The unit is stable and solid. The flame gets really hot but it does not burn blue. The orange flame creates so much soot it flakes off all over the driveway. The cooking pot gets a serious layer of soot on the bottom and all up the sides creating a huge mess. The cause is there is not enough air to gas mixture but with the air shutter all the way open it still is not right when burning a low, medium, or high flame. It also would not hurt to do a burn in for about an hour to get the paint burnt off because the burning paint makes some smelly fumes. I do not use it anymore and I am looking to replace the burner and regulator or maybe the whole unit. Too bad it does not function better.

The burner doesn't come with 30 psi braided regulator as shown in my picture so I doubt it will output 185000 btu like in the description or video. I picked this burner because of this feature. 10 psi just not enough for my need so I am going to return it.

This burner is very sturdy and does the job, very easy to install well built does not move around. Works great, even at low flame, which saves on propane. Unit very stable.

This burner has a very competitive price, very sturdy and does the job. The flame is hot and it boils large pots of water very quickly. However, I have been using it for over a year now and I am disappointed that it cannot be adjusted to a clean burning flame. From day one it always produced a very yellow flame with a lot of soot. (The burn is *almost* clean at full on, but anything less is a very dirty yellow flame). This inefficient burn means I am wasting propane and it makes a mess of carbon soot that ends up getting on my clothing and everything else around. I have done everything I know to try to adjust the flame and could not make it work right. I don't know if I got a lemon or this is typical for this model but at least one other reviewer commented on the problem. Even though this does the job, I am tired of the soot and waste so I have decided to purchase a different burner that produces a cleaner flame.

This is a powerful outdoor burner. I bought it for a 4th of July crab cookout and it handled the job of cooking 140 crabs with ease. We were able to handle batches of 12, but mostly due to the size pot we used. This burner is easy to use and transport wasn't a big hassle. The only practical issue is that the air inlet does not accommodate the intensity of the burner and you don't get a true blue flame on a higher setting.

The backyard pro single burner was purchased for only one true reason - to finish off maple syrup. The burner with wind guard worked awesome!

Just got the backyard pro to cook some beer on. I bought it because it had high BTU's and looked pretty sturdy. It has an adjustable dial to control the temperature that works very well. At first I thought it had to much adjustment in it but once I lit it the flame was infinitely adjustable. I put a ten gallon pot with five gallons of water on the burner. Cranked it up and it took about five minutes to reach 160 degrees and I turned it down and it held 160 for the 20 minutes I steeped my grain. Then I cranked it up again with in ten minutes it was boiling. I cranked it back down and it held a rolling boil for the hour that it took to cook the beer. It burns off the paint at first but once that is done it works great. The frame is very sturdy and has good welds. the burner is cast iron. The only negative is the bolt that holds the burner on is only a quarter inch bolt. It holds it on OK but I would like it to be a bigger bolt. This burner makes a lot of heat and it is not that noisy. Glad I bought it.
