How to Pipe a Rose with Buttercream Frosting

How to Pipe a Rose with Buttercream Frosting

Use these simple steps to professionally add a buttercream rose. You'll need a spatula, rose tips, a leaf tip, couplers, a flower nail, a rubber spatula, and piping bags. Begin by squeezing cream onto the flower nail in a circular motion, creating a lump with a tip on it. To create the layers of a rose, squeeze cream in an short arch motion and continue rotating the rose until you have the desired amount of layers, or petals.

Ateco Revolving Metal Cake Stand and Spatuals

Ateco Revolving Metal Cake Stand and Spatuals

Hello, my name is Julie Bashore and I'm the founder of the Sugar Arts Institute. And I'm here today to show you some of the favorite tools that I work with, manufactured by Ateco. The quality of their tools are absolutely awesome. To start off with, this turntable is very, very sturdy. It doesn't move on the table. It doesn't tip if you have a heavy cake on there. And it comes with a non-slip mat, which I like to use because it prevents the cake from slipping off the turntable. You can place your cake on there and work with it and it's not going to move. It turns really easily, I just love this turntable. To cover my cake with frosting, I'm going to be working with the Ateco short spatula. They are stainless steel spatulas. This one is a little bit wider so that you can collect your buttercream on the top of it and very evenly spread this around the cake. It holds the buttercream well. It's nice and wide so it doesn't fall off the cake. Once I have my buttercream placed on the cake, in order to smooth it out, I'm going to be working with my bench scraper. But before I go onto that, I'm going to show you a spatula that is also stainless steel. This is ideal for people who are tall. I'm rather short, so I prefer the short spatula, but this one, if you're tall, it really works well. And in addition, helps smooth the top of the cakes. The bench scraper is my preference for smoothing the buttercream around the side. It has a nice strong handle and I can actually grip it with my fingers, which helps me balance it. Holding it on the side here, at a 45 degree angle, I turn the turntable around and by working with the bench scraper I can actually see where I'm going with the buttercream. So spread it around, the turntable is turning nice and smoothly. And I'm going to remove all the excess buttercream and place it back into the bowl. And then for the top, you can use this tall spatula. But actually, again my preference is to work an off-set spatula. What I like about this one, it is great because it has some depth here, so I don't get my knuckles into the cake. And I can actually use this to smooth the edges of the cake. This way, my knuckles are kept a distance from the cake, so that I'm not scraping them into the buttercream. It's very comfortable to handle, it's not heavy at all. It has a little bit of give to it, which makes it a little easier to spread. Then once I'm done with that, I'm going to go back to my bench scraper and neaten off those edges. With this, you don't really need to move your arms at all. You just keep the bench scraper at a 45 degree angle. And then go back with the spatula and clean off your edges. And there you go; my cake is almost ready to have the fondant placed on top. Awesome tools!

spatula cakes cake offset great little easy icing perfect Size

A great option if buying for a bakery team because they seem to disappear faster than you can buy them. They are a great price so when they get lost it's not (as) upsetting

    perfect for smoothing

This baker's spatula is good. The handle is comfortable. The stainless steel blade is rigid enough to not feel flimsy, but flexible enough to aid spreading across large swathes of a cake. The surface finish of the metal itself is rather nice, and it shipped without any scratches. I find offset spatulas to be infinitely better than flat spatulas. One thing I wish is that webstaurant store offered a baker's spatula that was one-piece stainless construction. These don't seem to be prevalent anywhere else I've looked though, so it may be a pipe dream...

Hello, I went to my first baking class on August 12, 2016 and in that class we made a 8x2 cake. This product made it so easy to flatten and smooth the top of the cake. I highly recommend this product and I am exited to finally own one my self!

Anyone who decorates cakes needs this spatula! I don't know how people can do it with a straight spatula. I love this angled spatula and I can't imaging icing a cake with anything else!

Ateco is a wonderful brand. This spatula is inexpensive and works great. It's easy to use, especially if you are new at cake decorating. I highly recommend it.

This is the perfect item for frosting a cake, removing fudge, removing a brownie from the pan, and getting under a small piece of pie where a larger spatula won't work. A trick for getting the first piece of pie out easily and neatly. Cut two pieces, then remove the first one you cut. It comes out easily. The tapered offset spatula is a must have in anyone's kitchen.

A must for pastry service at the dessert station. Well made with just the right springiness in the blade to get cakes and tiramisu out of hotel pans and onto a plate.

Perfect little offset spatula. I use this mostly for taking flowers off of flower nails when piping roses, etc. Also works great for smoothing icing and frosting.

Integral tool in my cake decorating! I use this to ice all my cakes before smoothing with a scraper. It's also useful in lifting a cake by its cake board just enough to slide a cake lifter underneath.
