One of my favorite holiday films includes a famous scene where a mother encourages her son to “eat like the little piggies do.” No. Don’t eat like the little piggies do. It’s disgusting. Yeah. I’m looking at you, three year old with a macaroni noodle in his hair.
Still, there are sloppy foods that might very well belong in a trough, but taste so darn good that you should be selling them as a quick lunch item at your buffet, concession stand, snack bar, or sandwich bar! The first thing that comes to mind, of course, is the classic sloppy Joe. If you don’t already have a delicious recipe of your own, allow me to pass on one of my favorites: The Slammin’ Sloppy Joe.
Please note: The recipe below is for residential servings. If you would like to use it for commercial volume, or even if you’d just like to make a bit more or a bit less, check out our awesome recipe resizer that will allow you to quickly and easily manipulate recipes to meet your specific needs!
Slammin’ Sloppy Joe Recipe
What are you going to need?
- 2 pounds lean chuck (buy pre-ground, or ground it with a Vollrath 40744 #22 Meat Grinder)
- 1 chopped onion (chop with a 1/4" Easy Chopper Vegetable Dicer)
- 1 green pepper (chop with a Nemco N55500-1 1/4" Easy Chopper Vegetable Dicer)
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons mustard
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1, 8 oz. can of tomato sauce
What do you need to do?
Simply brown the meat with onion and green peppers in a large frying pan. Add in the remaining ingredients and simmer for 45 minutes.
There you have it; in no time at all you will have a quick, delicious, and highly profitable (albeit extra schloppy) item to add to your buffet, concession stand, snack bar, or sandwich bar!
