POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety & Security Manager is responsible for a wide variety of tasks related to the overall well-being of warehouse personnel. They will facilitate all safety/security related training, discussion, and planning to ensure that a safe, yet productive environment is maintained. They will ensure the correct documentation and reporting of all safety related incidents and verify followup communication. Development and recommendation of policies to promote workplace safety/security will be essential. This position maintains extensive knowledge of various operations protocols and identifies areas for improved efficiencies while maintaining company policy and government regulations.
Furthermore, the Safety & Security Manager will oversee a team of Safety Coordinators and Equipment Trainers. This team will be utilized to achieve all safety/security related goals and requirements. The Safety & Security Manager will advise the operations management team of safety issues, and act as the primary liaison with the Corporate Safety Coordinator, third party entities, and government agencies. Availability is fundamental for this role. Additional tasks may be performed as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedule and supervise safety/security related training for new hire onboarding, hazmat compliance, first aid, emergency response, and general workplace practices.
- Includes: powered lift training, fall protection, fire drills (performed quarterly), active shooter, lock out tag out (LOTO), evacuation, utility shut-off, SDS sheets, hazard communication, hand/power tool, and CDL
- Ensure that detailed documentation of above is maintained. This included organized records of all employee certifications as required by their position.
- Includes: safety interactions (reviewed weekly), OSHA compliance and complaints, personal safety training (with appropriate facilitators), new hire orientation, ANSI compliance, emergency contact list, certifications (general or specific), medical and Medcor data, pre-employment.
- Communicate with government agencies such as OSHA as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of government safety/security standards and regulations
- Includes: conduct/assign in-house inspections and/or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure proper compliance within company property.
- Facilitate equipment and personal protection equipment (PPE) upkeep
- includes: PPE ordering, preservation, replacement, and assessment of safety/practicality
- Participate and/or assign prompt, thorough investigations of all safety/security incidents, identifying causes and recommending actions for eliminating risk and preventing future incidents
- Includes: forklift accidents/injury, paneled interview, creation/implementation of change, and data tracking
- Perform and/or assign routine safety/security inspections throughout the entire property to ensure compliance with all relevant government regulations and company policy
- Conduct building inspections
- Includes: building cleanliness, code compliance, rack damage, pumphouse inspection, updating building maps and rosters for emergencies, and periodic checks of safety equipment (fire extinguishers, exit signage, eye wash, AED, etc.)
- Provide periodic updates to the management team with data driven information
- Promote company culture and ensure that standards are maintained
- Schedule and accompany contractors while onsite to administer services
- Be present for alternate shifts as new hires receive safety orientation and required training
- Creation of a rotation may be necessary to ensure a fair schedule amongst the safety coordinators and lift trainers. Filling in during their absence will be essential.
- Meet with individuals on the floor to discuss safe practices and build a better culture in relation to safety and security.
- Organize an employee safety committee and conduct monthly meetings to discuss safety related matters and measures.
- Ensure this team is active and productive to promote forward thinking of a safer workplace.
- Create and distribute monthly talking points for departments to address with their associates
- Create bulletins to post for each talking point.
- Coordinate an on-call schedule with operations management to respond to off-shift incidents
- Our warehouse operates 7 days a week. This position is primarily first shift, with flexibility offered in order to attend to needs that arise outside of normal working hours.
- Maintain light duty documentation/tracking and cooperate with the management team to ensure restrictions are followed properly at all times.
- Facilitate policy recommendation, creation, review, and roll out.
- Preserve warehouse security by ensuring access points are secure.
- Includes: conducting research and implementation of secure practices, sourcing equipment as necessary to ensure safe practices are created and maintained.
- Work to meet deadlines as set forth by senior leadership

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in training and development role; experience working with a large group of non-exempt employees preferred
- Associate degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing environment preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Proficiency with MS Office required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical and complex concepts in a simple and concise way to ensure ease of understanding
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 10 hours/day
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
- Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching
- Requires the ability to occasionally lift / carry 50-75lbs. and push / pull up to 150lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. Occasional activities may involve exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gasses. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The passage of employees through the work area is average and normal.
