Job Description

Job Summary

The Linux Administrator will take responsibility for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers within our environments. This will require the use of different tools to monitor performance, troubleshoot, patch, and upgrade Linux systems. They will be expected to perform these duties while implementing infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices that align with the department’s automation initiatives.

Remote Work Qualifications

  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain Linux servers
  • Design and deploy Linux infrastructure, leveraging IaC best practices and tools
  • Monitor and optimize Linux systems performance
  • Provide Linux support for teams that utilize the systems
  • Collaborate with Security team to identify and implement Linux security best practices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Linux system related problems
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades to Linux OS
  • Create and maintain Linux environment documentation

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed while sitting/standing and interfacing with a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 50lbs.

Qualifications

Experience

3+ years or proven work in a Linux or systems administration role with experience in:

  • Linux OS implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance (Rocky, Talos)
  • Centralized identity and access management (IPA, Active Directory)
  • Monitoring and reporting tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic)
  • Configuration Management and IaC (Ansible, Terraform)
  • Version Control (Git)
  • Scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Change Management practices

Education

This role does not require a degree. We value relevant skills and experience and alignment with our core values above all else.
