Job Summary

The Operations Training Manager supports the Distribution Center by leading a team of Training Specialists that build, teach, and evaluate the hard skills required by the material handler positions within the facility. They are also responsible for ensuring the safe operation of Powered Industrial Truck equipment through training facilitation and testing. An individual in this role must have superior abilities to inspire trust and authentic partnerships with professionals in all roles within the distribution center. Further, the Training Manager must continually refine their knowledge base, teaching expertise, and ability to coach others as future trainers within each department. Aiming to always provide the best-in-class programs, the Training Manager should have a keen eye for finding and applying patterns in data sets to make informed decisions.

General

  • Lead a team of departmental Training Specialists to own, build, and improve technical role-specific and cultural training to all departments and shifts throughout their employment lifecycle.
  • Facilitate, create, and own a library of high quality and engaging presentations that inspire audiences.
  • Promote participation and provide employees with clear applications of the materials, concepts, and processes.
  • Share instructional ownership of the distribution center’s learning management system.
  • Build feedback tools and gather insight on experiences to identify trends and create actionable plans that improve experiences and raise the bar in comprehension.
  • Ensure that all employees receive consistent training experience throughout the location and own the documentation that supports our training initiatives.
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication with direct reports, those in need of personalized coaching, and collaborating with salaried leaders.
  • Assist in creating SOPs and environments that support training needs.
  • Interact with employees regularly to promote a high level of engagement and ensure all safety regulations / rules are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

People  

  • Ensure the timely completion of all employee performance reviews and provide frequent and constructive feedback to all team members in accordance with the Great Employees Only philosophy.

  • Promptly complete all admin duties relating to employee management to the expected standard.

 

Leadership

  • Collaborate with the leadership team within the building to meet the needs of the DC and foster a team mentality.
  • Create development plans for employees to generate engagement and a leadership bench, with a focus on Team Leaders.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and honesty, embodying the core values of the company and modeling them for our employees.
  • Serve as a leader not only for the assigned department, but for the entire distribution center, holding peers, managers and employees accountable to expectations.


Travel

  • May require occasional travel to other facilities within the region. 

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75lbs.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Proficiency with MS Office required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain technical and complex concepts in a simple and concise way to ensure ease of understanding.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to quickly adapt as business needs change; ability to address difficult situations with diplomacy and emotional intelligence. 
  • Customer service-oriented attitude with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations. 
  • Ability to work off-shift as required to respond to urgent needs. 
  • Service leadership approach with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations.

Education

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching experience in industry and/or education field (preferred, but not required).
  • Associate degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working in a distribution environment preferred.
