Meat Slicers

Meat Slicers

Picking out the right commercial meat slicer for your business is an important choice. That’s why we’ve broken down the key factors to consider when shopping for the one that’s right for you. First, consider how frequently you plan to use your slicer. For light duty work, about an hour or less per day, an entry level slicer will work fine. The next step up is our mid-tier models, which offer more power and durability for several hours of use per day, at a price point affordable for most businesses. Finally, premium meat slicers are the best of the best, in terms of strength, durability, and consistency, giving you unmatched power that will stand up to constant daily use. Next, find whether you need an automatic or a manual slicer. Automatic units move product back and forth against a blade for safe and efficient high volume slicing. But for the average deli or sandwich shop, a manual meat slicer will do the trick. These units are probably what you’re most familiar with, requiring an operator to manually slide products across the blade for slicing. Other factors to consider when shopping for a meat slicer include blade size, horsepower, and ease of sanitation. We offer models with various blade sizes and power options, including many that are NSF listed. If you’re looking for more deli or butcher shop products, take a look at our selection of food paper wrap and deli take out containers.

I purchased this slicer in late July of 2015 and at the time, we couldn't be happier. My restaurant had been limping along with an old Hobart that I got used and after being open for a few months, I knew that it was time to spend some money on a new slicer. I would consider my restaurant to be a mid-sized deli - we get slammed from 11:30-2 and coast for the rest of the day making deli sandwiches. We're not a grocery store slicing whole cheese logs and meats by the pound all day. So I assumed that the Berkel 827A Plus, what Webrestaurantstore and Berkel call a mid-tier slicer would fit perfectly. Nope. For a while things were great. Compared to the old creaky Hobart, it was slicing thin and acting great. The slicer is too small for a large prosciutto, so we would have to cut away parts of the meat to accommodate the small tray size. From the end of July to March of this year, We have gone through three on/off switches. The switch is cheaply made with very thin springs and is all plastic. There is an on button and a separate off button - when one pushes in, the other pops out. On, off, on, off, eventually break. When I contacted Berkel about this, I was told that they knew about the bad switch and that they revised the switch. When I told our repairman this, on the third time that he came out, he chuckled and told me that the switches that he has been replacing are those replacement switches and that they still keep breaking. The pusher that acts as a hand guard on the slicer has a little plastic peg that keeps the pusher from hitting the meat tray (where you place the meat on the slicer) I believe we have gone through two of those. With the first replacement, the repairman changed out the whole guard replacing it with a new style of guard. The old one had raised triangles in the metal that kind of acted like teeth, keeping the meat in place. The new one has sharp spikes all over it on 2 sides of the pusher. These spikes dig into the meat and if they are not paying attention, the person slicing the meat or the employee that is doing the dishes. The second time the peg broke, it caused all of those spikes to scrape along the aluminum part of the slicer where the meat slides back and forth. That part also had to be replaced because the surface was now grooved, causing a place where bacteria could form. The repairman told me that if a health inspector had come in while the slicer was like that, they would have shut my store down. So that makes three switches, two pushers, one meat tray and whatever the flat part that the meat slides across is called. All replaced in eight months. And two days ago, my employee told me that the power button is acting funny again. Just an FYI, there is a one year warranty on this machine, so the repairs haven't cost me yet, but July is fast approaching and these are parts that keep breaking from daily use. I have contacted Webrestaurantstore to try to resolve the issue, but they do not take refunds or credit purchases. I have contacted Berkel and have been dealing with the Sales Development Manager, who was handling my repairs, but now seems to not be returning calls. I think that Berkel may have decent products but ABSOLUTELY not this model. The repairman says that, as far as the switch issue goes, it happens all the time with this specific unit. Another restaurant in our area has the same slicer and its issues are the same. If Berkel or Webrestaurantstore would credit me for what was spent on the slicer originally, I would love to take the more industrial sized models for a spin, as they look like they don't have the same parts as these cheaper models, but the outlook isn't looking good. Steer clear of the Berkel 827A Plus at all costs. Either go with a different brand at the same price point or save and try a more robust model. Read Less Read More
We appreciate your feedback on this meat slicer, Chris. We are truly sorry for the problems you’ve had with this unit. This is a warranty issue that must be handled by Berkel.

The belt has to be replaced two months after I purchased the slicer. The belt is not cover under their 1 year warranty, therefore I had to replace a brand new belt at our expense.
Thank you for your review, Brendan! We are sorry this Berkel meat slicer has not worked well for you. A Customer Solutions Representative will contact you soon!

This slicer works well with cheese and i would give it 5 stars, except for some irritating small issues. Right out of the box, the knob of the shaft to tight the blade plate was loose and i have not been able to find any glue to refasten it. so the plate is loose and creates a real racket.

It's good for low volume, but it can't handle keeping up with anything more than an hour of use a day. Also, obviously due to the blade size you can't cut whole pork bellies or anything like that. But for salami and the like, it's great.

Nice slicer for the price. It gets proscuitto paper thin! Easy clean up as well. It doesn't do great with longer logs of cheese but it is manageable

This a great slicer! I was in a pinch and needed one ASAP. I got it in 2 days. It is a great unit. It slices very quietly- you can barely tell it is on. Super sharp out of the box. We slice coldcuts as well as an occasional half frozen ribeye for steak sandwiches. Although not recommended in the details of this item to do it, that's what we need it to do and it does it flawlessly- it doesn't bind up or slow down at all. Cleans up very easily as well. The blade plate and carriage come off easy and the unit has less cracks and hiding places for stuff to hide when wiping it down. Fairly light to the size of the unit so easier to move around when needed. It does not have a prop bar but being light as it is, it is pretty easy to lift up and wipe under. I highly recommend this to anyone needing a reliable slicer for small to medium usage.

The best small slicer. period. If you own a small restaurant that does not have to cut blocks of cheese then this is the one for you. I have just bought a new one for my second location, and it is fast, sharp and easy to clean. My older 827 is 10 years old and never had one problem. Still Italian made!
We purchased this slicer to replace our old Berkel 827 e. So far it has been great we’ve used it now for about two weeks and it cuts all the meats cheeses so much better than our old model. The only complaints I have is it did show up with two broken pieces but WebstaurantStore was quick to replace the broken pieces. The other issue I have is the arm doesn’t seem to slide down the rail it catches unless you push it down. We are very satisfied thus far Though
Very good slicer. We use this multiple times a day for both meats and cheeses. It breaks down easily for cleaning and has a built in sharpener.
So far so good with this slicer. It did arrive with the blade guard completely pushed up against the blade. its quiet and pretty easy to clean. Cuts nice and even.
Nice slicer used primarily for meats. Sharping components fell apart in the first month, needed to use parts off the old slicer. Runs quiet and cuts nice.
Glides very easily. Cuts the meat perfectly. The way its built is pretty safe too. Deducted a star because disassembling it is a little time consuming
We have used this daily for over 6 months now. No major issues at all. Have had a little bit of trouble with getting smaller items to slice evenly because they are difficult to hold on the tray. Perfect for larger meats like ham or turkey. Would purchase again.
So far, we love this slicer. It seems like a great value for the price. If it keeps running as well as it is running right now (one month in), I will be very, very happy with my choice.

Light weight but works like a beast. Very easy to clean which is key when it comes to a slicer. I'd buy 100 more if we could. Some parts are plastic so you do need to take care not to bee to hard on them
Love this slicer, very user friendly and easy to clean. We use this slicer every day at my deli and are very pleased with the quality and price.
This is a great mid-range slicer. The slicer is built pretty well and seems to be very durable. The only drawback is the blade guard is permanent and a little difficult to clean and sanitize.
OUr first one came busted, but we were able to return quickly and receive a new one. We slice meat and bread daily with it. Very durable for our volume. We sharpen the blade every other month.
We are so glad we purchased this item. We forgot what it was like to have a brand new slicer and man is it worth it!
We've been using the new slicer for about 2 weeks now and we love it. Very easy to take apart to clean. The shield goes all the way around the blade. There are two bolts on the front that hold the fixed guide plate to the base that you can untighten a bit, allowing you to adjust the plate to be more aligned with the blade. We had to adjust it a bit for an even cut, nice feature but wish we didn't have to do the adjusting in the first place.
I have been using this slicer for over a year now. It is still slicing like the first day we got it. It is lightweight, easy to clean, and provides a great looking product.
Priced priced slicer, unless you are doing ridiculous volume you don't need to spend 6K+ on a heavy duty automatic. We prefer this Berkel manual because it allows you to mange portioning easily!
Finally a slicer that is affordable and slices cheese without and hesitation. We've had this slicer for a few years now and it slices like a champ!
very good slicer, perfect size for a restaurant or deli, i used it for meat, mostly frozen, sliced with eased, easy to dissemble and clean, quality was better than i had expected, will recommend to all my friend and family
I purchased this slicer to start a lunch service for our bakery. I average about 30lbs of deli meat to cut a week - this slicer will cut all day w/o any problems. It handles cheese w/o any problems. Cleaning is a breeze and the design is well thought out. I did my research on this slicer prior to my purchase and the 1/2 hp is a must! I would definitely recommend! - JJ
Spent a lot of time researching and looking at slicers. As a new business owner this slicer is hands down the best for the price.
I cant beat this slicer for the price. Works just as well as many of the more expensive modles. And it handles raw meats and cheese with no problem. Very easy to clean and sharpen.
This slicer is well-designed, easy to take apart and clean, and easy to put back together. And while it's a solid unit, it's not so heavy that I can't move it myself. It's a terrific value and even if I had a larger budget to play with, I'd buy this one again!
This slicer is a great value; it's high quality and powerful enough for our needs and the price was great. We've paid much more for other slicers that were not half as good as this one.
