How to Season Your Pans

How to Season Your Pans

Today we're going to show you how to season cooking pans. Pan seasoning is essential to any food service operation, as it keeps your pans from rusting and your food from sticking to the pans. Seasoning cooking pans saves you time and money. We'll show you how to season five different types of cooking pans in this video. A cast iron skillet, a carbon steel fry pan, a carbon steel wok, a tin-plated pan, and a hard coat aluminum pan.

Pan seasoning is essential for keeping your pans performing their best in your kitchen. This instructional video will show you the proper steps to seasoning your cooking pans based on their material.

How to Season a Pan

How to Season a Pan

For a carbon steel pan, start by washing, rinsing, and drying the pan. Heat the pan on your range on medium to high heat, then add shortening to the pan. Use a clean dry towel to spread the shortening around the interior of the pan, creating an even coat. Remove the pan from the heat, wipe out the excess shortening and let it cool. You can repeat this process up to 3 more times. For a cast iron skillet, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking pan with aluminum foil and set aside. Wash, rinse, and dry your skillet. Place the skillet in the oven for 15 minutes. Remove and coat the entire skillet with shortening, inside and out. Place the skillet in the oven for 45 minutes with the baking pan on a rack below it to catch any mess. You can repeat this process up to three more times.

Seasoning your pans enables you to cook great-tasting food with minimal oil, butter, or fat. It also provides a stick-resistant surface, allowing for easy clean up, and will keep your pans from rusting quickly. Check out this video to learn how to season cast iron and carbon steel pans.

We like to use these aluminum pans for baking our large pizzas. They're also great for serving to our customers as well. It's easy to cut large pizzas on this pan.

    Pizza dough prep!

The pizza tray is nice and sturdy for holding pizza. Great for cutting on and serving. It has a nice rolled edge and doesn’t flex with weight on it.

    Well made!

I only use these to serve the pizza that is already cooked--the only way to get a great, crisp crust is to go right on your pizza stone, but this makes serving it at the table so easy to manage, and cleanup is a snap!

If you are buying this for a 16" cooked product, the pizza will completely cover the pan. We purchased these to use with 16" pizzas and the result was a pizza pan that had no rim. However wonderful stainless steel pan makes a great platter for wings or fruit/veggie.

This pizza tray has a super durable build with an easy clean surface. We love the way pizzas look when served on this tray.

I have used this tray for quite some time now. It's very useful, washes up well, and I haven't had any problem with warping or bending. I also like that when you cut the cooked food on it, it doesn't gouge like cheaper trays.

Though lightweight (it is aluminum after all) this has performed very well. Granted I don't used for heavy duty commercial use but I couldn't be happier for the price.

This size pan is perfect for serving a 14" pizza. Allows the server to have an easy way to carry the pan without touching the food.

from Franco's Pizza LLC Posted on

Perfect size for pagach. We bake on stone, so the pan is for buttering and serving. Reasonable pricing when you need several. Fits in 27" ovens too!

    from By Ali Posted on

Good Tray for the price. The tray gets hot quickly after putting a pizza on it. It also scratches easily, simply cutting a pie on it leaves cut marks.

from Raymondo's Pizza & Summertime Treats Posted on

this 16" pizza pan is great for serving fresh pizzas on. We don't cook on them because we have a brick oven. But they are great to serve on. Just meets the standards for customers and they are always pleased so I'm happy. Absolute knock down from from Webstaurantstore.com.

I use these for my large pizzas and large cheesesticks. They hold up well and are easy to clean. They do get hot after a couple minutes though.

    from CG's Pizza Posted on

These are great pizza trays for our pizza buffet. The warmer is hot so the pans get really hot as well. Be careful when touching them. They are great for 16' pizza to be served to customers in the table, too.

Awesome pizza tray. I debated for a long time on what size i should get, and I'm glad I got the 16". I would recommend getting 3 for home use. They fit well for storage under my standard oven.

Very nice Pizza Pan. The edge doesn't have too big of the gap so that's very good since we had some issue with other ones got some clogged things on the edge.

Looks good, light weight, easy to clean, and inexpensive. What else do you need? We use these in the restaurant daily and it has performed great over the past 6 months.

Love these disks! We use to serve pizzas on mostly but also cook wings, breadsticks, bacon...really anything small you need to toss in the oven quickly. Will buy more in the future.

This is a good pizza tray for home use. It is not heavy duty like the ones in pizza places but, it is pretty sturdy.

Very functional. They season very easily and seem very durable. Sometimes we have to run one through the dish machine but usually just rin it through the oven to clean off stuck items.

from Pizza 'N' Stuff Posted on
