I bought this as a replacement for a cheap, stamped, serrated, chef's knife from a boxed set. For $11 you get a decent knife. This isn't a knife you would pass on to your kids or grand-kids, but it does the job. Sharp edge, no serrations. I use this with vegetables, and it does great, I haven't had a chance to use it with meat.
