Meat Grinder Buying Guide
It is important to get the facts about meat grinders before making a purchase; however, which type to buy largely depends on the needs of the business or institution. Meat grinders come in two varieties: the 1 HP model meat grinder and the 1.5 HP model meat grinder. The main difference is that the 1 HP model has a #12 hub that can grind about 220 lbs. of meat an hour, and the 1.5 HP model has a #22 hub that can grind about 440 lbs. of meat an hour. Both of these models can be used in such places as supermarkets or industrial kitchens, but the 1.5 HP model is better suited for heavy-duty operation than the 1 HP. Both of these grinders have energy efficient motors, precision gear drives, and are made of stainless steel, so cleaning them is a breeze. Each type of meat grinder has a specific kind of grinding knife that must be used in conjunction with it. You can also get a replacement 1 HP grinder knife or a replacement 1.5 HP grinder knife. While they are both compactly built with no sharp edges, the 1 HP model measures in at 9"W x 16"D x 18"H, and has a meat holding tray 8"W x 13"D, and the 1.5 HP model is 11"W x 20"D x 22"H, with a meat holding tray 12 ½"W x 16"D. Both of these meat grinders are NSF approved, meaning that they strictly comply with national codes for hygiene and safety.
Grinder Plate Attachments
Both the 1 HP model grinder and the 1.5 HP model grinder include a 1/8" and a 1/4" grinder plate attachment. The grinder plates have different sized holes, 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2", through which meat is ground. Each hole size is best suited for certain types of ground meat. Below is a listing of common uses for each size grinder plate.
