Manual Can Openers

Manual can openers require the user to turn a crank or wheel that spins the can through a sharp blade, removing the top. Manual can openers are often split into two categories:

#2 Can Opener

• Small, light duty
• Opens 4 – 6 cans per minute
• Up to 15 – 25 cans per day
• Opens cans up to 7" high

#1 Can Opener

• Sturdy, heavy duty
• Opens 4 – 6 cans per minute
• Up to 50 cans per day
• Opens cans up to 11" high

It is important to select the right can opener for your uses, as exceeding the limits noted above can cause premature wear and tear.

Which Manual Can Opener is Right for You?

The Good

Our entry level #2 and #1 manual can openers are imported. These manual can openers are more suited for opening only a few cans per week. They are not NSF or UL Listed.

The Better

Whether you're looking for a #2 or a #1 manual can opener, Edlund products stand for quality and longevity. The Best

The Nemco 56050-1 CanPro cuts along the outside of the can, which eliminates the possibility of cross contamination. This also creates a smooth cut so the lid removes easily, without jagged edges. Constructed of stainless steel and aluminum nickel, the CanPro is durable, completely dishwasher safe, and NSF Listed.

Electric Can Openers

Electric can openers operate with the push of a button. A magnet holds the can in place while it spins through a sharp blade, removing the top.

Most electric can openers are tabletop models, however, we do carry one hand held model.These units are designed to accommodate a variety of can sizes. Electric can openers are a favorite of retirement communities and health care facilities due to their easy single hand operation. Electric can openers are suitable for 50 cans per day, at 4 – 7 cans per minute.

Heavy duty, high volume electric can openers are available as well, which are designed to open up to 200 cans per day, at about 5 – 8 cans per minute. Many of our electric can openers are UL and NSF Listed.

Crown Punch Can Openers

A crown punch can opener is ideal for heavy volume use. You can open cans in a single motion! A circular set of blades is inserted in to the lid of the can and the entire lid is removed in one swift motion.

Crown punch can openers can easily open between 100 to 200 cans per day, at 6 – 10 cans per minute. The blades on a crown punch can opener are normally configured to open standard #10 food service cans. All Edlund crown punch can openers are USDA approved.

Maintenance Tips

Using the right can opener for the job can help avoid constantly replacing parts, or the need for a new can opener. Here are some additional maintenance tips:

• Regular cleaning will prolong unit life.
• Inspect and change knives and gears regularly. Knives and gears should last for approximately 2,500 – 5,000 cans.
• Manual can opener knives are reversible, to extend blade life.
• Edges are intentionally dull on knives and crown punch blades to prevent metal slivers, therefore they should not be sharpened.

We carry a variety of replacement parts for your can opener’s needs. Replacement knives and gears are available for both manual and electric openers. It is a good idea to keep replacement knives on hand. Bases are available for most manual can openers too.
