After sadly having to cancel our volunteer day in September due to rain, we were excited to be back at Water Street on a beautiful fall afternoon. We weeded the flower beds, swept the leaves, and picked up trash to leave the property looking pristine for the coming winter months. While picking up trash we found a few "treasures" amidst the plethora of cigarette butts. Some noteworthy finds included a squishy ball, pink high heel, ball of hair, and a cell phone (circa 1999)! Who knew picking up trash could be so interesting?
A "behind the scenes" look at our volunteer day at Water Street Rescue Mission:
Christine is hard at work weeding the flower beds. Wait - are those weeds or flowers?
Dave and Charlie pause from their sweeping for a quick photo op.
Erica holds up our best find of the day - a cell phone!
Joe and Kylie demonstrate teamwork at its best!
What a great looking group of volunteers! We were all happy to be able to give back to an organization that does so much in our Lancaster community.
After a few hours of hard work, we cleaned up our tools and equipment. We were so glad to have the opportunity to help Water Street Rescue Mission for the second time this year and look forward to the next time!
The Water Street Rescue Mission is the only year-round emergency shelter serving Lancaster, Pa. The organization's mission is to end the cycle of homelessness through lasting, life transformation.
