On October 6, six volunteers from The WEBstaurant Store helped out at the 2012 Lancaster Heart Walk at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster. Volunteers set up tents, managed information tables, manned booths, and created games and activities for children during the course of the day.
Designed to be a celebration of survivors as well as a tribute to those lost or affected by heart disease and stroke, the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk included health screening stations, a Zumba demonstration, active games for kids to play as well as the four-mile walk. The tents and tables located at the walk emphasized the importance of regular exercise to maintain a healthy heart, because a sedentary lifestyle is one of the leading risk factors for heart disease. The money raised at the heart walk will support activities that fight heart disease and stroke – the number one and number four causes of death respectively.
This year, over one million walkers will participate in almost 350 American Heart Association events. Over 1,500 walkers participated in this year’s walk in Lancaster, and The WEBstaurant Store volunteers were there to lend a helping hand with the many aspects of the walk.
