Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is primarily used as a leavening agent to produce carbon dioxide that expands the batter and allows baked goods to rise evenly. The carbon dioxide helps produce a characteristic crumb-like consistency. Quickly and easily whip up consistently-delicious batches of pancakes, cakes, and soda breads with this accessible, versatile baking soda that's a vital ingredient for many sweet baked treats! It enhances texture and can also be used to improve the crispness in breadings for fried foods. The size of this convenient 1 lb. bag will keep your bakery, restaurant, or cafe in good supply!
Should baking soda or baking powder be used in your recipe? The type of leavening agent used depends on the other ingredients being used. A mixture of baking soda and an acid like cream of tartar, baking powder has a neutral effect in terms of taste, and is used in recipes with other neutral-tasting ingredients like milk. Baking soda, on the other hand will yield a bitter taste unless it is balanced out by other acidic ingredients like buttermilk, molasses, and honey. Baking powder is widely used for biscuits and muffins, and baking soda is commonly used for cookies.

This baking soda makes cookies crisp and brown. It helps with browning and a rising agent for many baked goods and does a consistent job of doing so. I rely on this for baking and also as a deodorizer for my fridge. Since this package does not reseal, I transfer this baking soda in deli containers to keep their freshness.

Good price, good product, and good packaging to keep it that way. The bags don't reseal, so be prepared to transfer soda to a separate container, a pint or slightly larger is just right.

Good for baking and overall cooking. I reserve a few bags for cooking while a good bit of them go towards cleaning supplies. Also good for washing clothes and getting tough stains out.

For a one pound bag, it lasts pretty long. And I can separate them in different containers for different uses. I used some to make banana bread. Turns it light and fluffy

I love this baking soda. We use it at the commissary. The bag helps it stay fresh for longer. Great deal for a pound of baking soda.
